X-Men #57 Splash Page by Neal Adams featuring Lorna Dane
posted in Nonsense |
Please excuse this splash page from X-Men #57 from 1969, drawn by Neal Adams, featuring Lorna Dane. It’s one of the very first comic books I ever remember reading, and I clearly remember it getting me very excited about comics. I’m posting this for Gail Simone, who asked for it.

This is the page that was the “gateway drug” to turn me into an X-Men fan. I had one issue of the X-men from when I was a kids-#42, where Professor X (AKA Changeling) died. When Giant-Size X-Men #2 came out in the 70′s, I bought it because of this page. I was fascinated by this girl with green hair. A few months later, I saw an issue of Uncanny X-Men #97. There was Lorna Dane again, along with Jean Grey, who now had a Farrah hairdo. And there was this fantastic black woman named Storm. We rarely saw black women in comics back then. So I was intrigued. #98 came out with a new Sentinels story, and I was hooked. 35 years later I’m still here. Because of that page.
